The Russian Railway Museum, together with the Oktyabrskaya Railway, has opened four exhibitions marking the 175th anniversary of the St. Petersburg–Moscow railway: at St. Petersburg’s Moskovsky Railway Station and in Lyuban, Bologoye, and Tver.

Three panels common to all the exhibitions describe the main milestones in the line’s history. One additional panel at each venue is devoted to the station where the exhibition is displayed.

The exhibition covers the history of the railway between the two capitals, from the beginning of construction to the present day. The project is a preview of larger anniversary events in 2026.

At the opening, Mikhail Glinka’s romance “The Passing Song” was performed by the Alma Mater amateur chamber choir, led by artistic director and conductor German Kolbasnikov, an Honored Cultural Worker. Dmitry Golovkin, Director of the Russian Railway Museum, delivered welcoming remarks: “We started from a simple idea: when people are traveling, they have five to ten quiet minutes that we suggest using to gain new knowledge. The purpose of these displays is not to provide exhaustive knowledge of the history of the St. Petersburg–Moscow railway, but to spark interest and invite people to continue the conversation within the museum.”

The exhibition is free for all railway-station visitors through the end of November 2026.
