On August 30, 2025, the Russian Railway Museum took part in the “Open Lesson” family educational festival in the Summer Garden of the Russian Museum with its “Young Conductor School” program. More than 170 children attended the museum’s program.
Participants explored the origins of the train-conductor profession. The children learned who accompanied passengers on their journeys when conductors served instead of modern attendants, which badges identified the “master” of a railcar, and why railcars were light and warm before electricity existed. The young guests completed challenges and tried their hand at being passenger-car conductors, as well as taking part in a competition for the principal professional document—the “Passport of Trust.”
Russian Railway Museum educators held informative railway games and entertaining contests for the participants. Special tasks were hidden in a wooden game module.
“Conducting is one of the railway professions most familiar to passengers. On the last Saturday of summer, before the start of the school year, we introduced young St. Petersburg residents to this important job and told them about the qualities conductors need and their challenging, interesting tasks. Those who could not attend the celebration in the Summer Garden are welcome at the Russian Railway Museum—the interactive tour ‘Show Your Ticket!’ can be booked with the administrator,” said Vladimir Odintsov, Director of the Russian Railway Museum.
