“Many people love railways for their unique atmosphere. One of its components is the close connection with literature. Passengers feel as though they are inside a novel or hear poetic rhythm in the clatter of the wheels. We invite you to recall classic works in which the railway is ‘one of the characters,’ among real steam locomotives and carriages from the last century,” said Dmitry Golovkin, Director of the Russian Railway Museum.

The new intermuseum “Literary Weekends” festival will take place for the first time on September 26 and 27, 2026, as part of the “After Museum Night” program. It was initiated by the community of literary museums in St. Petersburg, with the State Literary Museum “The 20th Century” serving as coordinator. On the last weekend of September, 19 venues will open their doors to those interested in the work of writers and St. Petersburg’s literary and cultural heritage. Details are available on the Museum Night website.
