As of September 1, 2026, the Russian Railway Museum offers a series of games using virtual-reality headsets. One session is one game: “The Mallard Steam Locomotive,” “The Imperial Train,” or “Nicholas II’s Imperial Train.”

In “The Mallard Steam Locomotive,” players take on the role of a young reporter. They must gather material about the Mallard steam locomotive and send it to a newspaper editorial office. The game introduces participants to the locomotive’s specifications and the history of its speed record.

Visitors can enter the Russian Empire in “The Imperial Train.” Players arrive in 1896 and explore three meticulously recreated carriages. Their task is to find 13 objects that tell the story of the imperial family and its journeys.

In “Nicholas II’s Imperial Train,” visitors can try their hand as an engineer and build a train for the Russian emperor. Participants will construct the train’s carriages and learn about the imperial family’s life on the road. The game recreates the most technologically advanced and expensive train of the Russian Empire at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Duration: 30 minutes.

The current monthly schedule is displayed when purchasing a ticket on the website. If you arrive late for a session, the ticket cannot be exchanged or refunded.
