The year 2025 marks 150 years since regular railway service began in Crimea—an event that forever changed the peninsula’s fate. To mark the anniversary, the Russian Railway Museum is presenting a temporary exhibition.

Visitors will learn about the history of the construction and development of Crimean railways, from the construction of the Lozovaya–Sevastopol Railway in 1874–1875 to the launch of modern trains and the creation of key infrastructure connecting the peninsula with the Krasnodar Territory. The exhibition will feature photographs from the “Album of Views of the Lozovaya–Sevastopol Railway,” depicting Crimean stations at the end of the 19th century. Historical documents and photographs, Soviet-era tickets, and railway tools used to build the line will occupy a central place in the exhibition.

“It is no coincidence that writers and poets, musicians and scholars have chosen Crimea for their journeys over the past century and a half. The peninsula’s wonderful nature inspires creativity, while its history makes the heart beat faster. Railways have always been the main thread connecting Crimea with the rest of Russia. During the Great Patriotic War, they were of strategic importance. Many partners contributed to creating this intimate exhibition, and we thank them for providing the materials,” said Dmitry Golovkin, First Deputy Director of the Russian Railway Museum.

The “150 Years of Railways in Crimea” exhibition will be open from September 24 through December 2025.

The Russian Railway Museum thanks the I. K. Aivazovsky Feodosia Art Gallery, the Crimean Railway Federal State Unitary Enterprise, the Russian Geographical Society, the Primary Trade Union Organization of the Crimean Railway Operations Directorate, Grand Service Express JSC, and photographer Vladimir Ivanyura for providing materials.
