Fragment of a telegraph and telephone line

<space=1em>Wired communication

<space=1em>Until recently, the landscape of the railway line was complemented by telegraph and telephone lines. They appeared as the railways developed, and only the advent of wireless communication left them without work. However, until recently, only wires provided communication between posts and stations, which was the most important condition for the safe movement of trains.

<space=1em>Stepsons for supports

<space=1em>At the beginning of the 20th century in connection with the transition of railways to heavier rails, a large number of old ones were released, which they decided to use to strengthen the supports of communication lines. This significantly extended the service life of the supports compared to those that were simply installed in the ground. The mass use of rail stepsons began in 1909 both on new and reconstructed lines. Over time, stepsons began to be made of reinforced concrete.

<space=1em>US Standard

<space=1em>The supports presented in the museum appeared during the construction of new and reconstruction of old lines, which began in 1928 The support standard was developed based on the model used in the USA. They began to be installed en masse in 1931

<space=1em>Strength classes

<space=1em>In the same year, the division of lines by strength classes was introduced: H — normal for slightly icy areas, U — reinforced for severely icy areas, O — lightweight. The difference in classes was reflected in the diameter of the pillars and the transverse dimensions of the crossbars, the number of supports per kilometer of the line. Some requirements included the construction of foundations and the manufacture of supports of a special design.

<space=1em>According to the type of insulator arrangement, the supports were made of a mixed or traverse type. According to the installation location, they were divided into intermediate (transposition), end (anchor) and corner. According to the purpose, the supports were divided into cable, branch, end and inspection.
