<space=1em>For state-owned railways

<space=1em>This is a common type of baggage cars for state-owned railways, produced by carriage-building plants from 1901 to 1908 The single-suspension bogies are identical to one of the types of Class III (rigid) carriages built at that time.

<space=1em>A popular type

<space=1em>Unlike their passenger counterparts, which were supplanted by more advanced Pullman carriages, baggage cars with a body length of 15 m became widespread.

<space=1em>At the beginning of production of these carriages, footboards were installed along the channels, providing passage along the entire carriage from the outside. During operation, the footboards were dismantled and the single suspension bogies were replaced with more advanced ones.

<space=1em>The car arrived at the museum from the St. Petersburg-Moskovsky car depot in the mid-1990s. It was restored during repair work carried out by OOO ARS-M in 2017.

Хронология: <space=1em>The first specialized baggage cars appeared on the Nikolaevskaya Railway in 1857–1858. These were four-axle cars built by the Aleksandrovsky Plant in St. Petersburg, as well as by Levestam & Co. and Williams in Moscow. <space=1em>The cars with two baggage storage rooms had entrance doors made from wide entrance platforms at the ends of the car. Later, like all four-axle cars on the Nikolaevskaya Railway, they were converted to three-axle cars. <space=1em>Until the early 1910s, cars were most often built with three axles, less often with two axles. This was due to the weak superstructure of the track: to reduce the load from the wheelset on the rail, a third axle was installed. As the tracks and bridges were strengthened, the third axle was removed on some cars, and a truss was installed to strengthen the car frame. <space=1em>By the end of the 19th century, the number of passengers was increasing every year, and with it the amount of luggage. Therefore, the Nikolaev Railway developed a new type of four-axle baggage car, which was presented at the All-Russian Trade and Industrial Exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod in 1896. This type of car was built by many factories between 1899 and 1901 for other state-owned railways. <space=1em>Private railways built two- and four-axle baggage cars according to their own designs. One of these four-axle cars of the Ryazan-Ural Railway type has been preserved in the memorial museum "Mourning Train of V. I. Lenin" in Moscow. <space=1em>On low-traffic lines of small private railway companies, cars of the mixed system were used. That is, half of the car could have a baggage compartment, and the other half could be a third-class passenger car. Mixed carriages were also built for mail and baggage. Mail carriages were painted brown, and in earlier periods, gray. Mixed carriages had two types of paint, each of which corresponded to its purpose. For example, a baggage carriage with a third-class compartment was painted brown and green with their inherent lining (tserovka). <space=1em>Four-axle baggage carriages with wooden bodies 20 meters long were already being built in the early 1930s by the Lansutsky Plant in Gomel and the Krasny Profintern Plant in Bryansk. <space=1em>The first all-metal baggage carriage of the 7sb type was built by the Yegorov Carriage Works in 1951 by order of the Ministry of Railways. This plant built baggage carriages until the beginning of the 21st century. The plant was liquidated in 2013, and production was transferred to the Tver Carriage Works. <space=1em>The exhibit was received by the museum from the St. Petersburg-Moskovsky carriage depot in the mid-1990s. Restored in 2017. The carriage is equipped with Pullman double-spring suspension bogies, typical of pre-revolutionary passenger carriages.
