<space=1em>The normal tank car was built using a frame of a normal freight car (NFC) with a load capacity of 750 poods, which had been tested in both production and repair. This car was approved for all state-owned railways. The frame of the brake car was the same length as the non-brake car.
<space=1em>The increase in the carrying capacity of freight cars continued: first in 1908 it was increased to 900 poods, and in 1911 - to 1,000 poods. In order not to radically redesign the existing boilers on the tanks, but to increase their volume, additional superstructures were installed on the boiler.
<space=1em>Initially, the boiler was secured to the frame from longitudinal movement with special metal belts crosswise. As a result, they switched to one type of reinforcement. Corners were riveted to each boiler drum, which were attached to the longitudinal bars. They, in turn, were installed on top of the transverse bars.
<space=1em>Filling into the tanks was done through the upper cap, and draining occurred from the lower pipe in the form of "pants" on both sides of the car.
<space=1em>The tanks were painted depending on the type of cargo being transported. Gray is for transporting kerosene and oil, black is for fuel oil.

Хронология:  <space=1em>The Poti-Tiflis Railway, opened for traffic in 1872 and extended to Baku in 1883, was the first to order tank cars in large quantities. It was built primarily to export Baku oil to the Black Sea ports of Poti and Batumi. <space=1em>The fleet of tank cars in 1879–1880 already consisted of almost 500 cars built by Ringoffer, the Kolomensky and Russo-Baltic Plants. These were rather funny short tanks (length along the frame 4,600 mm) with a boiler diameter of 2,000 mm and a load capacity of 600 poods (9.8 tons). <space=1em>The next order for tank cars in the amount of 750 units was fulfilled by the Russo-Baltic Plant in 1885–1886. These tanks retained their 600-pood capacity, but were given a longer (5,870 mm) and narrower boiler with a diameter of 1,600 mm, which was matched by a new, longer frame of 5,860 mm. <space=1em>There were many different types of tanks on the railways, including those for transporting water and cottonseed oil. Alcohol was transported in special tanks that were installed inside a covered wagon to avoid heating and, naturally, theft. These wagons did not have windows, which are typical for normal freight wagons. Loading was done through a roof hatch that closed from the inside, and draining was done by pumping through a filler neck. Special tanks for acids and chemical liquids began to appear by order of the manufacturing companies themselves in the second half of the 1900s. <space=1em>One of the unique types of tank cars were the platform tanks of the Brand and Kubasov system. These were tanks whose boiler was a semi-cylinder with a flat top, on which a platform was made. They were used mainly on the Central Asian Railway, where water was transported in this car in one direction, and cotton in the opposite direction. <space=1em>Many tanks belonged to private companies, but they all had a registration with the railways (Ryazan-Ural, Transcaucasian, Vladikavkaz and others). <space=1em>After the First and Second World Wars, many different types of foreign-built tanks ended up on the USSR railways. Therefore, in 1927-1929, several thousand tanks of different designs and types were measured. Based on these measurements, calibration tables were developed and put into effect in 1931, which included 250 types of boilers. Each type of boiler was assigned its own calibration number, which was applied to the tank boiler in the form of an inscription or overhead numbers. Based on the measurement taken in centimeters and the calibration number of the boiler, the volume of the load in kilograms was determined based on the density of the water. The density of the liquid was measured with a hydrometer, after which it was multiplied by the weight determined in the table, thereby obtaining the weight of the load. <space=1em>The tank located in the museum consists of a tank that was installed on their tanks by the Putilov and Russo-Baltic plants (calibration type 217). <space=1em>The tank was transferred to the museum from track machine station No. 82 (Bologoye station) of the October Railway in 1987.
