The Russian Railway Museum hosted a presentation of the memoir collection “Breakthrough” by veteran railway workers

Development

On Monday, October 20, the Russian Railway Museum hosted a presentation of the memoir collection “Breakthrough” by veteran railway workers.

The book brings together the memories of managers of track-maintenance enterprises who worked on the Oktyabrskaya Railway from the late 1980s through the early and mid-1990s.

The title is no coincidence. From 1989 to 1996, the track-maintenance division of the Oktyabrskaya Railway made a genuine technical and technological breakthrough: advanced technologies for maintaining the track superstructure were introduced, and new-generation ballast-cleaning machines began to be used. All this work was carried out under the leadership of Viktor Timofeyevich Semyonov, Deputy Head of the Oktyabrskaya Railway and later Deputy Minister of Railways of the Russian Federation. This breakthrough played a major role in making high-speed service possible on the Oktyabrskaya Railway.

The collection is based on stories and photographs from railway workers’ personal archives, as well as articles from the Oktyabrskaya Magistral newspaper.
