<space=1em>During the New Economic Policy and the beginning of industrialization, freight transportation in the USSR increased significantly. It became necessary for industry to master and mass-produce heavy-duty wagons, which had already demonstrated their advantages over two-axle wagons. If the carrying capacity of two-axle covered wagons was 16.5–20 tons, then four-axle wagons — 40–50 tons.

<space=1em>Museum specimen

<space=1em>Since 1925 the Krasnoye Sormovo plant, Bryansk and Tver wagon-building plants began pilot production of four-axle covered wagons of various designs. These experiments led to the fact that in 1928 mass production of covered wagons with a carrying capacity of 50 tons began according to the drawings of the Bryansk plant.

<space=1em>The wagon in the exhibition was built by the Tver Wagon Building Plant in 1927 Transferred to the museum by the Vyborg wagon depot of the October Railway in 1998

Хронология: <space=1em>In 1925, a program for the development of new types of rolling stock was adopted. It focused on the construction of heavy-duty four-axle wagons of the type delivered from America and Canada during the First World War. Since the factories were not yet ready to build four-axle wagons, it was decided to resume the construction of two-axle covered freight wagons of the Canadian type. <space=1em>The first experimental wagons were built by the Sormovsky Plant in 1926–1927. The carrying capacity of wagons of this type was 20 tons. With minor changes in design, these wagons were built until 1931. <space=1em>Industrialization increased transportation volumes several times, so the carrying capacity and capacity of two-axle wagons became insufficient. Four-axle cars had a lower tare coefficient and resistance to movement, and were also easier to fit into curved sections of the track. And most importantly, with the same train weight, a train of four-axle cars was shorter than a train of two-axle cars. <space=1em>In the Russian Empire, four-axle cars of several types were built, but they did not have time to become widespread. During the First World War, four-axle covered cars were purchased in the USA and Canada. They were delivered disassembled to Vladivostok, where workshops were organized for their assembly. <space=1em>In 1925, the design bureau of VOVAT (All-Union Association of Carriage-Building and Brake Plants) developed two types of covered freight cars. The first of them had two doors on each side. This was due to the fact that the grain receivers on the elevators were made with a certain step, designed for unloading from normal freight cars (NTV) without rearrangement. The cars were loaded with grain through the side windows and unloaded through the doors. The car frame was made according to the American design with spacer trusses. The second type was a car with two doors, one on each side wall of the car. <space=1em>The cars were made according to European dimensions with a body width of 3,062 mm and a height of 3,956 mm. The idea of a world revolution was still driving the leaders of the Communist Party, so they envisaged direct transfer of the cars to European countries, primarily to Germany. But, naturally, with a change of bogies or wheel pairs. Cars according to this project were built by the Bryansk plant "Krasny Profintern", Nizhny Novgorod "Krasnoye Sormovo" and Tver plants. <space=1em>The car presented in the museum was built by the Tver Carriage Works in 1927. Transferred to the museum by the Vyborg carriage depot of the October Railway in 1998.
