History of imperial trains Imperial trains

Exhibit description

The following cars were damaged as a result of a train crash near the station of Borki in 1888.

Dining car, letter L (previously rebuilt from a class I car R No. 29 by the Alexandrovsky Plant in 1847);

Workshop car, letter Z (a former class III car of the T series built in 1849);

Kitchen car, letter R;

Service car, letter J (rebuilt from a class II car of the Sb series, No. 323 in 1885).

Later, these letters were assigned to other cars, included the Nikolayevskaya railway train, replacing the broken rolling stock:

Letter L was assigned to the restructured class I car, Ra No. 329;

Letter Z (“Workshop”) was assigned to the converted class III car of the T-series, No. 157;

Letter R (“Kitchen”) was assigned to the converted class III car of the T-series, No. 233;

Letter J (“Official”) was assigned to the converted class II car of C-series, No. 19.

In 1890, the Alexander Plant had additionally built a four-axle luggage car with two compartments — for luggage and “secondary” persons accompanying the train. The temporary imperial train had a spare workshop, letter Z, adapted from a freight train car, included in it for some time too.

In 1893, the temporary imperial train consisted of 13 cars:

“Imperial”, letter A;

“Grand Ducal, Gentlemen”, letter C;

“Grand Ducal, Ladies”, letter K;

“Diner”, letter L;

“Ministerial”, letter M;

Three “Entourage” cars, lettered O, E, F;

“Official”, letter J;

“ Kitchen”, letter R;

“Workshop”, letter Z;

“Baggage”, no lettering;

A lesser kitchen car, letter N.

Ten of them were part of the permanent imperial train, the rest served as back-up. In 1893, the temporary train was upgraded. The cars were equipped with an Uhlengut through harness, air brakes of Westinghouse and Guardi system and hand brakes. Electrical signaling and telephone communication lines were set up between the two end cars, lettered Z and J, as well as the “Entourage” car, letter O. Finally, six cars received electric lighting. A boiler, a steam engine and a generator itself were installed in a special compartment of the workshop car.
