Steam locomotive "Nimble"

The setting of the era

The display case features a model of the steam locomotive "Provorny" — the first steam locomotive of the Tsarskoye Selo Railway. There are also items that were used on this line: copies of reusable brass tickets, authentic plates from the Kornilov porcelain factory from the restaurants of the Pavlovsky and Petersburg railway stations, sheet music and a travel bureau. Travel suits from the mid-19th century were recreated by the workshops of the Mariinsky Theatre, and the travel bag and cane in the hand of the passenger are authentic.

The locomotives ordered in England and Belgium were given the names "Nimble", "Arrow", "Elephant", "Bogatyr", "Oryol", "Lev" on the Tsarskoye Selo Railway.

October 30 (according to the new style - November 11) 1837at 12:30 a train of eight cars with the "Nimble" locomotive, built at the Stephenson plant, left St. Petersburg for Tsarskoye Selo and arrived 35 minutes later. Thus began the railway history of Russia.
